Russian Grandmothers’ Apple Pie-Cake
My copy of “Dorie Greenspan’s Baking – From my Home to yours” arrived last Friday, just in time to jump on the bandwagon for this week. Natalie of Burned Bits chose the Russian Grandmothers’ Apple Pie-Cake. The title sounds interesting: pie-cake. A pie not made with a pie crust, but with a kind of sponge mixture. The dough was easy to handle if well cooled. By request of my three gentlemen I served it with Bird’s custard. Delicious!
