I like poppies. In our garden we have at least three different kinds of poppy: Island poppy, which is favoured by slugs, Corn Poppy and Oriental Poppy. Unfortunately the Golden Poppy didn’t come back this year.

But only the seed from the Opium poppy are used for cooking, all other kinds are unproductive or don’t agree with people.
I like both blue poppy-seed and white poppy seeds. I tried Mohnkuchen à la Café Ual Skinne with blue poppy-seed. And with white poppy-seed from Austria I prepared Make-ahead buttered poppy seed rolls and Saffron poppy knots
For my husband’s birthday I prepared with white poppy seeds the
Poppy-seed cake with orange syrup

Preheat oven to 160 C°
In a bowl, make soak poppy seeds in milk.
In a bowl stir salted butter unil foamy, add sugar and mix until
obtaining a creamy consistency. Add eggs one by one and mix well
between each egg.
Add the sifted flour, then the baking powder.
Wash an orange, recover the peel in a bowl and press it.
Add the orange juice and the zest to the batter, mix. To finish,
pour the milk and poppy-seeds.
Butter and flour a mould or line it with grease proof paper. Pour in
the batter and bake for 55 minutes.
Fifteen minutes before the end of baking, wash an orange, save the
zest Using a knife, cut very fine stripes. You do not cut the
fingers!
Press 2 oranges and pour the juice in a pan with sugar. Add the
orange peel. You must get a syrup, leave on fire with the first
gross bubble, attention which the syrup does not overflow, it will
be ready when it is sirupy (you do not burn while tasting).
After baking unmould the cake and pour on the top a little syrup and
the the orange zest. Pour the remaining syrup in a bowl and let each
one sprinkle its slice to taste.

Merci, très belle réussite
The poppies are beautiful. For some reason, I haven’t ahd much luck in growing them. I love poppy seeds in food. In the U.S. there are a lot of jokes about how if you eat them you will fail your drug tests (some people have to have drug tests at their job to be sure they aren’t using drugs), so if you serve something with poppy seeds for a dinner party, someone is sure to make a joke about it!
Absolutely gorgeous! Wish I could have a slice of that right now!
delicious
This looks wonderful! I will be trying this.
