Sam at Becks and Posh has organised an event to celebrate British Cuisine, especially the English Cuisine. I adore chefs like Gary Rhodes and Ainsley Harriott. Baked beans on toast with sausages and fried egg

for lunch, like today. And I still love it, so do my sons.

Title: Baked beans with tomatoes, garlic and sausages

Yield: 4 to 6 Servings

Ingredients

H FOR THE BAKED BEANS
50 grams   Butter
1     Onion, chopped
3 cloves   Garlic , chopped
100 grams   Panchetta, chopped
700 grams   Butter beans, cooked, rinsed and drained
3 tablesp.   Tomato purée
5 teasp.   Brown sugar
3 dashes   Tabasco sauce
100 ml   Red wine
400 grams   Cherry tomatoes, tinned
H TO SERVE
      Sausage, griddled and sliced
      Slices bread, toasted
      Fried egg

Directions

1. Heat the butter in a small pan and fry the onion, garlic and pancetta for 4-5 minutes and give into a 3.5 litre crockpot

2. Add the butter beans, tomato purée, sugar, Tabasco sauce, red wine and cherry tomatoes and simmer on "high" for 6 h.

3. To serve, place the baked beans on toast and top with the sausage and fried egg

:Cooking time 10 to 30 mins

    My husband would be appalled…. Americans don’t eat beans with eggs and he’s a bit of a purist when it comes to breakfast.
    I think it looks fabulous for any meal! I love eggs and anything!

    I was never too keen on baked beans – but we grew up on the ones our of a can – had they been homemade likes these delicious looking morsels, maybe I would have been better disposed towards them.

    I am not sure it is true that Americans don’t eat eggs with beans – at least here in CA where I live Huevos Rancheros, a mexican dish with eggs and beans, seems to be on nearly every brunch menu in town.

    Thank you for taking part in Fish & Quips and helping me prove that English Food is not always the big joke its reputation would suggest.

    I absolutely ADORE this breakfast! I had some of teh best beans in the world at this B&B in Ireland. The couple that owns it in fact are German – she made the best beans in teh whole world – there was coriander in them I am sure. I always try to replicate those beans! Her sausages were to die for to…and her fresh hot chocolate. The B&B is on an organic farm and man, it was GOOOOD!

    You said that you didnt know if we eat the eggs with baked beans in america. Generally the answer is no. Baked beans are reserved for meals like lunches(noon meal) and dinner (evening meal). I am currently in a relationship with someone from England and was looking for recipies and know that he loves this. The Huevos Rancheros is a mexican dish and is generally served all over the US in mexican resturants however, It is a little different from this recipie. ;)
